Job Description


The Business QA Analyst is responsible for developing a comprehensive knowledge of the Enrollment Medicaid Operation’s business and applications. Responsible for developing and performing comprehensive testing functions. Incumbent will be responsible to learn and demonstrate performance of Enrollment functions, specifically the loading, processing and validating of enrollment files. 


  • Performs comprehensive application and workflow testing including unit testing, integrated system testing, regression testing, end to end testing, version or upgrade testing, report testing and conversion testing, as appropriate.
  • Develops strategies and appropriate test execution plans. Incumbent will create test data, write and execute test scripts, develop comprehensive test plans and coordinate testing and production deployment of application changes and updates. Incumbent will certify all testing results of the system/application changes prior to go live.
  • Works closely with the operation analysts, IT development team, vendor development team, and others as appropriate to understand technical and business requirements and convert those requirements into system test case scenarios.
  • Develops a common, scalable, reusable, easy-to-maintain, and effective testing framework.
  • Identifies, documents, reports, and tracks system application software defects. Writes application Change Requests as necessary to correct application logic or to add new functionality based on business requirements identified.
  • Mentors and guides team members in testing functions as necessary.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to perform Enrollment functions by loading and reconciling the 834 file received from the Department of Medical Assistance Services. Serves in a backup capacity to other team members in these Functions.
  • Creates complex SQL queries in order to perform data analysis and validation of backend data.
  • May perform other operational activities as assigned.



  • Bachelor degree in business, computer science or related field of study strongly preferred, or commensurate experience in lieu of degree.


  • Experience in Software Quality Assurance, with a strong working knowledge of System Development Live Cycle (SDLC).
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing business and technical requirements in order to develop test plans, scripts, and scenarios.
  • Demonstrated and proficient skills writing and executing SQL queries.
  • Extensive understanding of database tables, relations, data types and values, multiple joins, and comfortable using functions (count, sum, average, etc.).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, comfortable utilizing functions, pivot tables, performing lookups, sorting and filtering etc.
  • Ability to solve technical problems. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with a variety of team members, departments and management.
  • Healthcare experience with Medicaid Operations is preferred.
  • ANSI 834 EDI Benefit Enrollment files preferred.
  • Cognizant’s QNXT Healthcare platform preferred.


  • 3+ years of experience developing, creating and executing manual test cases.
  • 3+ years SQL writing, executing and validating backend data.


  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
