Job Description


The Manager, Clinical Applications provides management to the Clinical Application Support staff for the Medical Management department of the organization including: clinical application implementation, conversions, system training, testing and clinical report development. This position is located in our Innsbrook office location in Glen Allen, Virginia (Richmond, VA).


  • Manages a team of Analyst and Application Support Specialists
  • Manages and assist with design, development and implementation of the Clinical Application Services’ areas assuring alignment with the organization’s strategic vision and plans.
  • Works closely with Director and business leaders to drive transformational change in clinical care through the use of information technology.
  • Participates in the planning, development, implementation, upgrading, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical applications and technology throughout Virginia Premier, Inc.
  • Provide direction and Project Management for new clinical software application implementation
  • Serves as the liaison between clinicians and information technology by translating clinical requirements to the IT build teams, participating  in validation content, and confirming with the clinicians that the content developed will meet member care needs.
  • Collaborates with the IT teams, building content such that clear and concise clinical requirements are communicated to the IT build teams.
  • Participates in system analysis and research related to current and proposed clinical information systems.
  • Accurately and promptly analyzes the impact of information technology in clinical and business work processes through documentation of workflows and process maps.
  • Develop test plans based on business requirements, and assist with Systems Integration and User Acceptance Testing.
  • Communicates issues/topics with team members and IT leadership.
  • Demonstrates understanding of maintaining security, confidentiality, and integrity of employee, member and other medical information.
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of current trends and issues in healthcare, healthcare informatics, NCQA standards and VPHP policies and procedures.





  • Registered Nurse (RN) preferred
  • Experience with clinical system design
  • A minimum of three years of relevant IT and business/industry work experience within the healthcare industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in design, implementation and management of complex information technology systems and environments


  • Strong familiarity with modern network/information systems theory and design
  • Strong familiarity with ICD-9 and CPT codes
  • Knowledge and experience designing, implementing and supporting network and     clinical applications and monitoring systems
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills


  • Healthcare industry experience required and managed care experience preferred
  • Project Management experience required
  • Experience with system implementation, conversion, integration and testing


  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.


Ability to travel throughout the state for stakeholder meetings/conferences, training, and oversight of assigned regional offices.
