Overview

The Business Analyst II (BA II) acts as the primary liaison between Medical Management, IT and Finance & Analytics. This position will focus on understanding data content and the business logic behind all data transformation for reporting. The BA II will conduct analyses and develop actionable insights related to drivers of medical utilization, benchmark analysis, and care delivery among other things. This position offers the opportunity to work across all lines of business and collaborate with stakeholders in numerous departments. 

Responsibilities include providing analytical and reporting support, gathering requirements, performing analysis, and understanding the data and associated technologies for supported areas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and distribute reports related to multiple product lines and business units as assigned
  • Leads and guides workgroups through the evaluation of current state processes.  Performs analysis to define opportunities to create improved future state workflows/solutions (end-to-end process flow development)
  • Develop repeatable and ad-hoc reports related to multiple product lines and business units as assigned
  • Document applications for use in training, maintenance, and department procedures
  • Perform moderate to complex queries. Apply moderate understanding of database tables, relations, data types and values
  • Data mapping, including the creation of file specifications; source to target mapping 
  • Assist in development of benchmark reports
  • Assist in the analysis and presentation of business opportunities
  • Develop an expertise in CMS and DMAS data and data systems

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Health Administration, Mathematics, Information Systems, or related field preferred.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS

  • Knowledge of health care benefits and product offerings including Medicare, Dual, FIDA and SNP programs
  • Strong analytic abilities with track record of identifying insights from quantitative and qualitative data
  • Proficiency with SQL (querying, analyzing and mapping data) 
  • Creates complex queries that join multiple tables / sources and significant data massaging
  • Basic understanding of how work effects the enterprise and bottom line; ability to recognize problems and propose ideas for solutions
  • Performs complex data analysis using traditional statistical and/or non-traditional methods
  • Contribute suggestions to team effort; may be called upon to support multi-functional team efforts
  • Minimal coaching required

 WORK BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE 

  • Required: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in data analysis and/or report development
  • Preferred: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in healthcare (preferably Medicaid Managed Care), business analysis or application development/implementation
  • Experience working with authorization and claims data is preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
