Job Description

Overview

POSITION IS BASED IN ROANOKE

 

Under the direction of the Medical Home Medical Director, the OB/GYN Physician is responsible for providing the full scope of primary care services to include but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance in a professional, efficient and ethical manner that will ensure quality health standards to all patients, particularly women of childbearing age and older. The OB/GYN Physician is also expected to comply with all clinic policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations that govern managed care and clinic operations.  

Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • Attend to the medical needs of all clinic patients by performing quality patient care activities to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a Physician. Medical and surgical procedures may be performed to ensure ongoing health of the clinic’s female patients.
  • Care for women during pregnancy and childbirth, performing cesarean sections and other surgical procedures to preserve patients’ health and deliver babies safely.
  • Provide post-partum care i.e. contraceptive planning, LARC insertion, depression screening and counseling on birth spacing.
  • Assist with planning, development, implementation of policies and procedures and ongoing quality improvement initiatives as part of patient centered medical home (PCMH) accreditation.
  • Assist in maintaining best clinical practice standards and guidelines to ensure acceptable specialist medical care and service growth specific to the diseases of female organs.
  • Educate clinic patients in health maintenance, health promotion, disease prevention and other health matters as deemed appropriate.
  • Obtain and review patient medical histories and develops patient care charts, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Follows progress of patient care to determine the effectiveness of the treatment plan and updates and records changes in health status and modifies treatment to achieve clinical goals as necessary.
  • Consults with the Medical Director on all difficult cases. 

Medical Utilization Management

  • Collaborate with Medical Director in all aspects of utilization and care management of clinic patients.
  • Regularly communicates with Medical Director and clinical staff to understand medical utilization performance and data.
  • Help to implement specific medical initiatives that support improved patient outcomes and/or cost reduction strategies. 

Quality of Care

  • Applies knowledge of state and national standards for patient care to ensure the clinic meets applicable standards of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement, chart audits, and process improvement programs.
  • Evaluates and ensures the quality of care for all medical services provided. 

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with VPHP regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Review policies and procedures to ensure adequate protection of patients’ rights and compliance with regulatory standards and other ethical issues.
  • Participate in developing policies, practices, and systems to monitor and implement quality control standards in compliance with DMAS, NCQA and other regulatory agencies standards and requirements.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures relating to standards of care, standards of practice, but not limited to: infection control procedures, safety procedures, universal precautions, patient confidentiality and security policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee, legal, client/patient, budget and all company matters.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation regarding patient medical information within (EMR) patient charts.

Scheduling

  • Full-time (40 hours) work week. Time will be managed to ensure all patient obligations are met, participation in various committees and coverage of a colleague for vacation, leave etc.
  • Participate with an external group for call cross coverage to ensure adequate obstetrical coverage for patient care during paid time off (i.e. conferences, vacation, etc.)

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE

  • Must have graduated from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic education program and satisfactorily completed an appropriate residency program with experience providing medical services to patients (residency or post residency).
  • Must be currently certified or eligible by national certifying body in the OB/GYN specialty for which the applicant was educated as recognized by the Virginia State Board of Medicine.
  • Currently hold and maintain a medical license to practice in the state of Virginia or be eligible to obtain such license.
  • Currently have or be able to obtain full admitting and operating privileges at local hospitals, specifically Lewis Gale Health Center and/or Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven effective communication skills.
  • Good computer and excellent documentation skills.
  • Excellent patient safety and quality skills
  • Demonstrate experience in assessing treatment and responses and adapting care to meet the needs of the patient population served.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse set of employees / patients with multiple disciplines in both clinic and administrative settings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position
