  • Overview

    The ideal candidate will manage VPHP’s existing extracts (internally developed and vendor managed) and lead new solutions throughout the Software Development Lifecycle i.e. from gathering and documenting requirements to designing and developing solutions, deployments and post-production support and will do so reporting directly to the Sr. Director of Data Management.  The Software Development Manager provides oversight to a team of programmers, leads design decisions, and do hands-on work with teams to lead development efforts.

    Responsibilities

    • Adept at working across organizational boundaries and partnering with Business Leads while maintaining a strategic perspective regarding IT architecture and business needs.
    • Gain sound understanding of Virginia Premier’s development environment, identify technology gaps and lead projects to close those gaps.
    • Drive technical development for IT projects based on project objectives and business requirements
    • Assist in the creation of project architecture and detailed design documentation per required deliverables.
    • Lead application development, perform code reviews, work with software vendors, coach developers, and advise teams of Virginia Premier standards, requirements, methodology and processes
    • Participate in defect triage and work with project team/vendors to resolve prioritized defect fixes
    • Work with project management counterparts to deliver broad-based, often complex, communication for internal and/or external audiences
    • Responsible for managing and evaluating staff performance for professional development of the staff members to include: conducting objective-setting goals, coaching, assessment, and mentoring activities.
    • Hire, develop, coach, lead and retain top-tier talent, with a focus on building and improving a team and culture that is able to assist in employing best in class practices to support and drive high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, especially in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or related degree

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS

    • Working knowledge of health care claims systems such as QNXT, Facets, Amisys, or similar systems or development tools a plus.
    • A broad understanding of the health care field and related processes.

    WORK BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE

    • 7+ years in the technical design and development of complex business process workflows
    • Proven strategic and tactical leadership, motivation and decision-making skills
    • 5+ years in the Healthcare domain with special focus on Claims, enrollment and provider data
    • Strong hands-on technical experience in Microsoft SSIS, SSRS development and writing complex queries using SQL
    • Analytical approach; strong problem solving and root cause identification skills
    • Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply trends to software development
    • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with other technical teams, project management, and business analysts

    • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
