  • Overview

    The Social Media Specialist position assists in the development, tracking and oversight of social media initiatives for corporate and product specific initiatives.  This position will evaluate the effectiveness of social media communications and make recommendations regarding the most successful marketing approaches.


    • Assist with implementation of the corporate communications plan.
    • Manage multimedia content projects from end to end, including collaborating with designers, producers, editors and photographers on story ideation; managing timelines; drafting and reviewing content and obtaining internal approvals
    • Social listening and monitoring
    • Responsible for understanding basic concepts, benefits and features of each line of business.
    • Responsible for understanding and adhering to Virginia Premier, VCU Health, and VCU editorial guidelines.
    • Ensure site performance analysis and media insights are continuously used to optimize content development.
    • General reporting, analytics and executive summary communications for all communication initiatives including usage, pipeline of work and associated delivery expectations, challenges and opportunities, etc.



    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, English, or related field


    • Thorough understanding of the most popular social networks, including but not limited to, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Glassdoor, YouTube, Pinterest and Yelp
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products required
    • Proven success in writing for digital, print and other media
    • Excellent communications skills with proven ability to present, write, edit and organize thoughts in a clear, concise and well-organized manner
    • Strong project management skills with relentless attention to detail on simultaneous projects


    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in social and multimedia content development.
    • Strong knowledge of content and social marketing industry trends, tactics and user behaviors.
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of Virginia health care market preferred.
    • Previous grassroots/community outreach experience preferred.


    • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
