  • Overview

    The Database Administrator is responsible for building and maintaining the company’s Microsoft SQL Server environments.  Successful candidates will have proven experience performing a wide range of administration activities as well as the ability to leverage their experience and knowledge to development and strategic initiatives.


    • Manage and support on-going daily operational activities of the development, test and production database environments.
    • Work database related service tickets assigned to the IS Database team
    • Develop database activity reports capturing metrics such as user activity, disk performance, resource utilization, etc.
    • Monitor and analyze real time system capacity, utilization and performance, troubleshoot and resolve database operational problems.
    • Work with users to resolve query performance problems. Recommend and implement any database performance enhancements resulting from query tuning.
    • Participate as Database Administrator/Architect in database development projects.
    • Develop, modify database standards regarding database objects and overall database system architecture.
    • Create, implement and maintain policies and procedures for ensuring the security, integrity, availability and performance of the database environments
    • Ensure contingency plans (backup and recovery, failover, and disaster recovery) for each database system are defined, documented, tested and executed as needed
    • Ensure the production environments are supported in accordance with service expectations
    • Maintain all required software assets
    • Evaluate and recommend new database and data technologies



    • Bachelors of Science or more advanced degree in Business/Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems or related Engineering Degree, is preferred, OR equivalent work experience in lieu of degree


    • Experience with redundancy, failover and/or high availability regarding SQL Server Clustering, AlwaysOn, Database Mirroring
    • Experience maintaining hardware and software assets
    • Experience stepping into disorganized database environments and implementing best practices, policies, procedures
    • Metadata, Data Quality, Master Data Management experience
    • Virtualization experience
    • ETL, business intelligence and reporting experience (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
    • Health care industry knowledge and experience
    • Working knowledge of Extended Events
    • Ability to build SQL Server instances in a standalone and clustered environment.


    • 5+ years of database administration
    • 3+ years of Microsoft SQL Server administration (including SQL Server 2012)
    • 1+ years of data warehousing and large database experience
    • Experience working in a production support capacity
    • Advanced T-SQL skills
    • Strong working knowledge of database design concepts including data modeling, normalization, dimensionality, keys, referential integrity, indexing and partitioning
    • Excellent verbal and written communication
    • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
    • Experience multitasking within a fast paced production environment
    • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing requirements


    • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
