    The Nurse Manager will provide leadership and supervision of RN’s, LPN’s and Certified Medical Assistants at the Virginia Premier Neighborhood Health Center. This role is an integral part of the patient centered care approach and the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that clinical care teams are working efficiently.  This leadership role applies professional knowledge and expertise in matters related to clinical care as well as personnel management.  The Nurse Manager will lead by example and will embrace the Neighborhood Health Center’s mission to provide excellent care to an underserved population.


    This position will also provide part-time (approximately 20% of job duties) clinical nursing support to the OB/GYN provider(s) in the care of obstetrical and gynecology patients. Apart from the usual rooming procedures, the incumbent will triage obstetrical calls, assist with office procedures as well as provide education and relay care instructions from the OB/GYN provider.  Critical thinking skills are needed to ensure high quality customer service through a collaborative approach to patient care. Each patient, family, and visitor will be treated with the utmost respect, compassion, and empathy.


    • Provides leadership to the Neighborhood Health Center staff through participation on the Executive Management Team, which presently includes the Medical Director and the Practice Manager. Changes to the composition of the Executive Management Team is at the discretion of the Medical Director in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Virginia Premier, Inc.
    • Responsible for the direct supervision of the Virginia Premier Neighborhood Health Center nursing staff
    • Creates, coordinates and facilitates training programs for nursing staff
    • Completes initial and subsequent nursing staff competency skills check offs.
    • Ensures nursing staff are working to the top of their clinical license/certificate and that clinical resources are allocated appropriately.
    • Counsels personnel and manages human resources issues, properly documents any and all personnel issues. Ensures that disciplinary actions are administered in an objective and fair manner.
    • Holds individual one on one meetings on a regular basis. Directs and develops nursing staff by coaching for success on a daily basis as well as provide consistent performance feedback during individual 1:1 sessions.
    • Conducts performance reviews and evaluations; ensures nursing staff members understand expectations.
    • Conducts routine audits and training in regards to nursing documentation in the Electronic Health Record.  
    • Creates and maintains nursing staff schedule to ensure smooth clinic operations
    • Receives employee call-offs and updates schedule accordingly
    • Assures proper staffing levels and works with the nursing staff schedule to assure vacancies are filled in a timely manner.
    • Personally conducts and maintains inventory of clinical supplies. May delegate to appropriate clinical staff.
    • Conducts routine vaccine inventory, maintains supply and proper storage and handling
    • Acts, or delegates responsibility to clinical staff, as Virginia Vaccine For Children Coordinator and VIIS Administrator for Neighborhood Health Center
    • Maintains up to date knowledge of current clinical regulations and educates nursing staff accordingly
    • Holds the position of Infection Control Officer for the Medial Home, ensuring infection control safety standards are maintained. Attends needed training to stay current on regulations and educates Neighborhood Health Center staff accordingly
    • Ensures that employees are provided with a safe working environment and promptly reports any safety concerns to the Practice Manager and/or Medical Director.
    • Works closely as part of the Leadership Team to ensure smooth clinic operations and maintains open lines of communication with all staff.
    • Collaborates with Medical Director and Policy and Procedure Committee to review, develop and implement clinical policies and procedures
    • Assists providers and/or nursing staff with direct patient care as needed
    • Provides back up RN coverage in clinic and in Triage as needed. This may include assistance with in-house inductions with buprenorphine for the Medication Assistance Treatment program
    • Maintains a high level of customer service both internally and externally
    • Maintains the confidentiality of all patients and staff.
    • Other duties as assigned by Medical Director



    •  Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.
      • Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) or Masters in Nursing (MSN) is strongly preferred.
      • Based on 3-5 years of nursing administrative experience, an Associates in Nursing (ADN) may be considered.
    • Certification/Licensure: Must possess a current Registered Nurse license from the State of Virginia or be able to obtain state licensure within a reasonable timeframe. Must also have current certification in Basic Life Support or be able to obtain certification upon hire.

    • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse set of employees and patients with multiple disciplines in both clinic and administrative settings.
    • Knowledge and experience in the areas of employee development, leadership and communication.  
    • 3-5 years of previous work experience in a nurse leadership, supervisory, management or director of nursing role strongly preferred.
    • 3-5 years of previous experience providing direct patient care.
    • Experience utilizing an electronic medical records system such as eClinicalWorks.
    • Experience in clinical training and staff development strongly preferred.


    • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position
