    Overview

    The Director of Behavioral Health Services provides day-to-day operational oversight for behavioral health utilization, case management, and ARTS program and services. These functions support the overall corporate goals of providing integrated health plan clinical operations and ensuring effective delivery of high quality behavioral health care.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures proper administration and delivery of behavioral health managed care clinical services for all lines of business including Behavioral Health Utilization Management, Behavioral Health Case Management and Care Coordination and ARTS program and services
    • Monitors staff productivity and development of “best practices” to meet stakeholder expectations
    • Promotes integration of physical and behavioral health services to optimize member health and well being
    • Identifies and recommends departmental improvements
    • Utilizes working knowledge of all governing regulations and standards for all responsible programs
    • Monitors compliance of delegated services
    • Embeds innovative and evidence-based practices into all programs
    • Serves as organizational representative with behavioral health stakeholders, internal and externally
    • Ensures successful compliance with policies, programs, contractual agreements, and regulatory requirements
    • Collaborates with colleagues on behavioral health quality assessments and quality improvement activities
    • Collaborates with colleagues in Disease Management and Medical Outreach on clinical initiatives.

     

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

    Current Unrestricted Virginia License in one of the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with active Virginia License as a Registered Nurse OR
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker OR
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist OR
    • Licensed Clinical Psychologist

     

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS 

    • Commitment to Virginia Premier’s clinical programs and mission to serve our population
    • Ability to work with colleagues and other health care professionals to effectively solve clinical and operational challenges
    • Demonstrating collaboration with Virginia Premier staff and management to achieve goals and objectives of the department and organization
    • Management of competent teams
    • Ability to communicate effectively with health professionals, administrators and staff, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to review the medical literature and other clinical resources to solve a clinical issues
    • Competency in Microsoft Products

     

    WORK BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE

    • Five (5) years or more of experience in behavioral health administration and operations is required.
    • Deep understanding of behavioral health service delivery is required.
    • Experience in managed care is preferred.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
